about

Hi there! I’m Helen. I’m so excited to meet you! (gives you a hug)

So this is the page where I get to tell you who I am. What I do. And then I try to captivate you into sticking around. And I hope you do! Because I’m passionate about personal development and I want to inspire you to dig deeper, get curious about who YOU are, and get comfortable with feeling uncomfortable.

Selfishly, I’m here so that I don’t take the journey alone. I want to share my stories because I don’t want to live small. I want to live BIG and living this way requires being vulnerable, honest, and taking action!

“Vulnerability is the birthplace of connection and the path to the feeling of worthiness. If it doesn’t feel vulnerable, the sharing is probably not constructive” – Dr. Brene Brown

So … Who am I? I rumble a lot with this question. I’m not a fan of labels or putting myself in one category. I feel that’s super limiting and as I’ve come to learn, I am a multifacet of things.

Currently residing in Brooklyn, I immigrated to the US of A with my parents and a 4 year old (younger) sister from Minsk, Belarus. One of my first memories in Belarus was of my father urging me to keep quiet about our roots, about who we were. We were (are) Jewish and we were not allowed to talk about it. It was the primary reason why my parents decided to leave the country. America providing us with an abundance of opportunities was another as well as their daughters becoming successful doctors and lawyers (an immigrant parents’ dream for their kids). Warning: I am NOT a doctor. Or a lawyer. But I am blessed with endless opportunities and the freedom to be whoever I want.

Since I can remember, I was always seeking something. Always pensive (see baby pic below), trying to understand why people do the things they do and what motivated them to do so. I also really loved learning. School was FUN for me – not the act of going to school, the act of learning new material (although my grades were shit but only because I was lazy, lacked motivation, and didn’t have the proper guidance). So growth and self-development were always important to me. It was the only way I could get closer to feeling WHOLE.

What do I do?

I am a Practice Coordinator for a successful NYC Dental Practice. I’ve been here for 13 years and I truly love my job! I started working here one day a week as a receptionist and have helped transform the practice from a one dentist, one assistant (and one receptionist) team to a million-dollar and multi-specialty practice! I’ve learned a lot here and I’ll be sharing those lessons along the way.

I am also a makeup artist (as you can see in the above pic of me, doing my makeup for my sister’s wedding). I worked with MAC Cosmetics for 2 years before I took on the full time role of Practice Coordinator at the dental practice and have also freelanced doing makeup for photoshoots, fashion shows, and bridal parties. I really enjoy the artistic element of makeup and love that I get to use my intuition to create looks based on the preference of the client. I believe “less is more” and strongly feel that we should accentuate what we are blessed with, NOT alter it. So for me, makeup is about bringing out the inner beauty of the person, not hiding it.

I am also a writer. A blogger. A foodie. And who knows who else I may morph into as I continue to evolve.

I make mistakes – lots of them! – and I’m choosing to hang them out to dry because it’s what will set me free. Doing, falling, getting up and sharing is my recipe to personal freedom and a more fulfilling life.

Thanks for reading friend! I look forward to the journey. 🙂

  1. Intriguing, since we often don’t spend enough time together I’m very interested in getting at your underlying thoughts. You have much easier access knowing someone already that has all that info but I don’t have a good conduit to understanding you as much. I will definitely be reading and replying where it seems fit. Thanks a lot for your honesty and willingness to be vulnerable.
